about

Back in 2004, before the old Bathyscaph label folded, there were plans to release a set of four 3-inch compilations entitled "An Introduction to Trees" over the course of the year. Songs from various friends were collected and prepared, but then focus had to be taken away from the label's activities. Eventually, the label was closed and the Trees series was never released. Fortunately, most of it was archived.

After 15 years sitting on various backup disks and/or hard drives, it was time to revisit this material. Renamed "Apocryphal Teacup Eyesore," this is a (mostly) compiled rendition of the original Trees series. Unfortunately, information on only three of the four planned releases has been located - two of which (discs two and four) were preserved quite nicely while the third (disc one) was preserved simply through preliminary artwork which wasn't entirely accurate based on track duplication across the series and a couple tracks that were known to be cut. Due to this and the lack of information on the fourth release, some guesswork had to be made as well as overall changes.

The release has been scaled from the originally intended sixteen tracks to twelve (with a nice bonus for those who download the album). As stated, a few changes were made as well. Most notably, Original Son of Man and Long Search for Pegasus have had their tracks swapped to those that felt more appropriate for the mood of the compilation as a whole compared to the individual 3-inches on which they would have appeared. A previously unreleased Murex track was added to replace what should have originally been a previously released Frim Xa Duis track. Also, a previously released Alphabet1 track was removed. Of course, these changes are meaningless to all but myself since the originals were never released but for the sake of completeness have decided to note them.
